From Our Hearts receives numerous letters and emails from our deployed soldiers every week. This letter, from Jessica H, is a good example of what our soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen and coast guard personnel endure every day while deployed.
To the card makers,
Hi, my name is Jessica. I am a part of the 945th FST in Kandahar, Afghanistan. We have been here almost 2 months now, and we have 7 months until we can go home to our loved ones.
Our team consists of 20 people, and we are a highly specialized medical unit. Our unit leaves Kandahar on 3 day to 2 week medical missions.
We are a reserve unit from MN (although a few of our members are from other states). We all have trained together back home for over a year, so we know each other well and get along well.
Kandahar is a huge base, and other than the heat and the overcrowding of how many people are stationed here, it's not a bad place to live.
There are a few gyms and dining facilities to choose from and we have the option to buy wifi for our rooms, which makes staying inn touch with our families easier.
About half our team has deployed before; the other half, including me, has not. I'm a big endurance athlete back home and I really miss running outside, as well as my dogs.
I wanted to write to you all to let you know we really appreciate the cards you made for us to use, and we send them to our loved ones a lot. Thank you for your support!
PS - We especially like the "thank you" and generic "note" cards
